A civilization can learn the sky, build against it, and still only borrow time.
The three-body system never settles into a safe rhythm. The stars keep undoing the conditions a civilization needs: ground that feeds under one star can be burned or frozen as the others move into place. Each sky step brings new pressure, defenses wear away, and the strain builds across a civilization’s life. The system does not need one final catastrophe; its ceaseless motion keeps making survival temporary.
People survive only while food, water, shelter, and timing hold together. When the last people are gone, that civilization falls. A new one begins on the same damaged world, but its life is new and fragile: people and temporary ground state are cleared, and unearned work progress is lost. Later, scars can close quarters for good and bring the book itself to an end.
Most completed works remain after a fall. The next civilization inherits those marks and can build on them, even as it faces the same restless sky. The game lets one society’s effort become another’s starting point, while making clear that no society can keep its people or preserve the world as it was.
The goal is to build a vessel and carry everyone away. When they leave, the stars do not follow; the planet remains behind. Survival here is temporary, and even success means accepting that this world cannot be made permanent.
This cannot be undone.

Every hand can put people on bare ash and feed them. Each one gives something up.
